Our holiday home in Småland for workations, extended stays and trying life in Sweden
Sometimes one or two weeks are simply not enough to really settle into a place. Perhaps you would like to work remotely from Sweden, are considering moving here or need a furnished temporary home after relocating. Or perhaps you simply want to spend a few quiet weeks in Småland without having to fill every day with activities.
From 1 November to 31 March, we offer our fully furnished Swedish house for stays of three weeks or longer. The house is located in Målerås in the Kingdom of Crystal, right next to the forest, and provides everything you need for a longer stay.
Who is our long-stay offer for?
Workations and remote working in Sweden
If you can work independently from an office, you can move your home office to Småland for a few weeks. The house has a dedicated workspace and an internet connection of up to 250 Mbps.
We are currently planning a second workspace. If two of you would like to work remotely at the same time, please mention this in your enquiry.
Trying life in Sweden before moving
A holiday usually only shows you a small part of a country. If you are considering moving to Sweden, you may want to experience what ordinary everyday life feels like, especially during autumn and winter when the days are shorter and life becomes quieter.
Our house can be a practical base for exploring Småland, getting a realistic idea of distances and finding out whether your plans for living in Sweden also work in everyday life.
Temporary accommodation and extended breaks
Perhaps you are already moving to Sweden but cannot move into your own home yet. Or perhaps you simply want to step away from your usual routine, write, work on a personal project or experience Sweden without the time pressure of a short holiday.
The house is fully furnished and therefore suitable both as temporary accommodation and for an extended holiday.
What our Swedish house offers
Our house was built in 1947. We use it ourselves regularly and have furnished it so that it works just as well for everyday life as it does for a holiday.
The house includes:
- two bedrooms,
- space for up to four adults and one child,
- a fully equipped kitchen,
- washing machine and tumble dryer,
- internet connection of up to 250 Mbps,
- a dedicated workspace,
- living room with a wood-burning stove,
- heating via an air-to-air heat pump,
- games and a PlayStation,
- darts and table football in the basement,
- a large garden directly next to the forest,
- private parking at the house.
Pets are welcome by prior arrangement. Please note that the garden is not fenced.
Autumn and winter in Småland
Between November and March, Sweden shows its quieter side. The days become shorter, everyday life moves indoors and small lamps and illuminated stars appear in windows throughout the villages.
However, we do not want to promise a perfect winter wonderland. It can rain, storm, snow and become very cold. Snow is possible, but never guaranteed. The lowest temperature we have experienced at our house so far was approximately minus 25 degrees Celsius.
Our house does not have the energy efficiency of a modern new-build property. It is mainly heated by an air-to-air heat pump, with the wood-burning stove providing additional warmth. Using heat and energy consciously is therefore part of staying here during winter.
Everyday life and shopping in Målerås
Målerås is a small and quiet village in the Swedish Kingdom of Crystal. Forest paths begin almost directly outside the property. At the same time, everyday shopping is easier than the rural location might suggest.
The local glassworks serves a daily lunch, which is useful when you do not feel like cooking. The nearest supermarket is in Alstermo, approximately ten minutes away by car.
Nybro is around a 25-minute drive away. There you will find several supermarkets, DIY stores and everything else you may need for everyday life.
A car is highly recommended for a longer stay. If you are looking for peace and nature while still having shops within a manageable driving distance, Målerås offers a good balance.
Dates and prices
The offer is generally available from 1 November to 31 March via direct booking. The minimum stay is three weeks.
Three-week stay
- €990 rent for 21 nights
- €375 electricity prepayment
- €250 security deposit
Four-week stay
- €1,290 rent for 28 nights
- €500 electricity prepayment
- €250 security deposit
For longer stays, the basic rate is €1,290 per 28 nights. Additional partial periods are calculated individually.
Electricity is not included as a flat-rate charge. The electricity prepayment is paid together with the rent. Meter readings are recorded at the beginning and end of the stay, and the actual electricity consumption is calculated afterwards. Any remaining credit will be refunded, while additional consumption will be charged separately.
The security deposit is €250 for each booked period of up to 28 nights and increases accordingly for longer stays. For example, the deposit for 56 nights is €500.
An extension beyond 31 March may be possible, subject to availability. Different seasonal rates may apply outside the winter offer period.
Insurance cover
Guests staying for a longer period are required to have personal liability insurance. The policy should explicitly cover damage to rented holiday accommodation abroad.
If you are travelling with a dog, you will also need suitable pet owner’s liability insurance covering damage to rented accommodation and stays in Sweden. A brief confirmation of your insurance cover is sufficient when booking.

Our house is not a hotel or an anonymous holiday complex. It is a genuine Swedish home where we regularly spend time ourselves and which means a great deal to us.
We would be happy for the house to be lived in during autumn and winter by people who appreciate it as much as we do and would like to create their own everyday routine here for a while.
